Exhibitions

UNITED KINGDOM
The Living Tradition
A calligraphy exhibition of The Oxford Scribes.
For their 25th Anniversity Exhibition the Oxford Scribes (UK) selected twenty-six – for the twenty-six letters of the alphabet – of the most significant hands or styles of writing and asked members to interpret them in a modern and inventive way. Each of these works is accompanied by historical information and original exemplar. Starting with Greek and ending with modern computer-designed letters, the exhibition is designed as an educational record of western calligraphy. A gallery of members’ work followed this sequential presentation.

The exhibition is making a grand tour of our area of England. It has a three month showing at the Cumberland Lodge, Windsor Great Park from September 2010 until the end of December 2010 when it will probably close with a taking out party.'

A full color, beautifully designed, spiral bound, 72-page reference book/exhibition catalog is available. It includes both the 26 letter pieces and the members’ gallery. Cost including shipping for address in the U.K. is L £17.65. Mail cheque or bank draft to Gilly Middleburgh, Highwood, Kiln Lane, Lacey Green, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire HP27 0PU, UK. Cost for EEC £19.00, Rest of the world £21.00. All prices include mailing costs. Payment in pounds sterling only. Email membership@oxfordscribes.co.uk if you want to make an electronic transfer of funds.

AUSTRALIA
CALL FOR ENTRIES:
The ACT (Australian Capital Territory) Writers Centre is calling for entries for an exhibition of artists’ books with a story component. The exhibition, The Story Is The Thing will be held at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre from 27 May to 6 June, 2010.
Closing date for entry forms: Monday, 26 April, 2010
A requirement to enter the exhibition is that the artists’ books should have a story component. The story does not need to be lengthy and it can be the creation of the book artist, or it can be a collaboration (for example, a writer provides the story and a book artist makes the book). The books can be sculptural in form and made of materials not usually associated with books. Entries from overseas are welcomed. Books can be offered for sale.
