A1. Outstanding Calligraphy Websites -- Book List No recommended books By Denis Brown. CD08. Art of Denis Brown CD-ROM. $40.00. A1. Outstanding Calligraphy Websites -- Supplies NEED TO BRING: Basic Tool Kit (you may need to prepare or re-do artwork during the week); a USB flash drive at least 1GB (1000 MB) OR a portable hard drive with cable for connection via USB2 or Firewire 400. (Note: an I-pod can be used as a portable hard drive OR if you bring a digital camera with compact flash or similar card storage, a spare card of at least 1GB could be used to take home your files. Be sure the cable can connect via USB2 or Firewire400. Campus PCs are CD read only; they do not have CD burn ability.) Bring some pre-prepared artwork and have a general idea of what you want to present in your website—these will give you a head start. (Please be open to objective criticism that could possibly involve a rethink of your site plan and replacement of the artwork.) You may wish to bring finished pieces of your work to scan: lettersize or smaller can be done in one pass, but larger is also possible by scanning in sections and 'stitching' to reassemble the complete image. (You will be shown how to do this.) Alternatively, you may prefer to bring digital files you have already scanned. Tip: scan at minimum 300dpi full size; bring raw files in uncompressed TIFF or Photoshop PSD format; do NOT process the scans using scanner sharpening or color correction facilities OR post processing in Photoshop. Store the digital files on CD or on a USB flash drive. (If you do not understand any of this, just bring your original art to scan in class.) OPTIONAL: 1) If you have a digital camera, bring it with the cable needed to connect it to a PC; 2) You may want to purchase a unique domain name and professional web-hosting package online. In this case you will need a credit card. Instruction and advice will be given as part of the class. If you already have a domain name and web-hosting package, make sure to bring all access passwords and account info; 3) Those able to bring their own laptop/portable computer (PC or MAC) are advised to do so. A PC with all required software will be available to each participant, but your own laptop will be a more familiar work environment than lab computers on campus. If you bring a laptop, also bring an ethernet cable for broadband Internet access, or ensure you have wireless Internet capability. The entire campus has wireless broadband access. Minimum laptop computer specification should be as listed below, and software installed should include Adobe Photoshop version CS2 or CS3 and Adobe Dreamweaver version CS2 or CS3. For smooth flow in class, it is essential that all students have these versions of software. (If you do not own the most recent version, you can download a free 30-day trial from www.adobe. com. Note: Do NOT install the trial software until a week before conference or it will expire too early for you to explore it fully in and after class! If in doubt, wait until conference—the software can be installed on your laptop in class.) For those who wish to bring their own laptop computer: please go to www.adobe.com and view system requirements needed to run Adobe software.
