A3. Pastel Drawing and Painting -- Book List Recommended books: The Pastel Book by Bill Creevy. $21.95 (out of print) B3040. Raw Colour with Pastels by Mark Leach. $24.95 A3. Pastel Drawing and Painting -- Supplies NEED TO BRING: Basic Tool Kit; PASTELS: A box of SOFT pastels (not oil or chalk pastels). Good brands are Rembrandt, Grumbacher, Schmincke or Sennelier. Half sticks are fine, a minimum of 12 colors. (Note: If you find a box of pastels dirt cheap, they're probably chalk. Only bring if you already have: oil pastels or pastel pencils.) Black or white corners made out of poster or mat board for cropping; artwork; black or brown Conte crayon for sketching (HB, single sticks or 2 in a pack); a few sticks of charcoal; tools for smudging—any or all of the following: Q-tip, cotton balls, chamois, kneadable eraser, stumps or tortillons (rolled paper cylinders), old soft brushes; one pad of tracing paper, 14"x17" or 19"x 24" (you won't use the whole pad); 5–10 sheets of inexpensive but good paper in any colors (Canson, Fabriano Ingres or Strathmore charcoal paper are good choices); black felt pen (medium tip, not chiseled). OPTIONAL: Palette knife with a round end; no-odor spray fixative for pastels, if desired. MATERIAL FEE: $10–$20 [includes various paper samples, etc.].
