NEED TO BRING: Basic Tool Kit; pencils (4B, 2B, HB, 2H, etc.);
sponge (for sticky fingers); rubber cement pickup. Bring if you
have them: a ruling pen; large brass pens (Coit or other, approx.
¼"– ½ "); brushes, flat and/or pointed; your favorite mark-making
tools; tracing paper for rough drafts OR non-repro graph paper;
one sheet of cover-weight colored paper, such as Canson or
Strathmore Charcoal or a decorative paper (you may want to
purchase this on site); gouache in assorted colors (red, yellow, blue,
burnt sienna, green, orange, purple) plus Ivory Black; Pro White and/or white gouache; some better brushes for applying gouache
(you'll need at least one pointed brush about #10 and a ½ " flat,
such as WN 995; gum arabic.
MATERIALS FEE: approximately $20 [includes packet of good paper and other materials supplied for the class and a group printing project that instructor completes after the conference].

Sizes: 1 (1/16"), 2 (1/8"), 3 (3/16"), 3A (1/4"), 4 (5/16"), 5 (1/2"), 6 (3/4"), 6A (1").
These poster pens are made of a non-rust nickel silver with a plastic handle. They produce very thin thins. Use them with the tooth blade uppermost. Clean with warm water after use. A new pen should be filled and worked gently on paper
until the color (ink) flows. Any possible sign of scratching will soon wear off with use.

BR24. Raphael Kaerell Flat Brush
These brushes can be used for chisel edged brush writing and watercolor painting. Carl Rohrs finds these water media brushes to be good for lettering. He recommends the W&N 995 (BR01) for ½" & larger. Synthetic bristles.

Winsor & Newton Cirrus Kolinsky Sable Watercolor Brushes. 110 Rounds. Size 1.
Sheila Waters recommends these watercolor brushes as a less expensive alternative to Winsor & Newton Series 7. Georgia Deaver tested the brush for us and found it good for brush lettering. For illuminated initial letters you need the smallest sizes. For brush lettering the larger sizes would be more useful.
