A7. Gestural Writing -- Book List

B2830. Finding the Flow by Gina Jonas.$24.95

"Beautiful examples are found in a lot of books, but I would recommend the book of my teaching master Brody Neuenschwander: "doe dit tot mijn gedachtenis" (Jezuswoorden). I have also found the Scripsit (26.1) issue featuring the work of Julian Waters very instructive. And of course the little Character book by John Stevens. Finally, the black-and white issue (issue 19.2) of Letter Arts Review from a couple of years ago."

Jezuswoorden is not presently available in North America, but a book on the full range of Brody's work, Textasy (B2917, $90) was recently published and limited number of copies will be available at LMS. You may pre-order a copy.

At Cheerio this spring, Yves mentioned the work of Elmo van Singerland, a Dutch lettering artist. Scripsit 19.2 (B2878. $12.00) has four pages of his work, along with that of Hermann Kilian, Sherry Bringham, Jose Mendoza Y Almeida & Tony Forster.

The Scripsit 26.1 is sold out, but Scripsit 21.2 (B2881, $12) is still available with lettering by Julian, John Stevens, Ward Dunham and Michael Clark. Pens & Protocol (B3016, $28) has a section of Julian Waters' calligraphy.

B2362. The Character. $20.00.
John Steven's forthcoming book (B2982 -- John Stevens: Calligraphy, Design, Lettering Art) can be reserved at the pre-pub price of $29.95 until June 30, 2008 (the book is due to ship in the fall/winter of 2008.)
LR19-2. Letter Arts Review Issue 19-2: The Black and White Issue. $10.00
