S880. Hot Foil Pen
Hot Foil Pen.
This battery-powered pen uses low heat to transfer metallic foil onto paper, wood, plastics, photos, and other surfaces. Applying even, slow pressure, you can easily make dots and designs for embellishments. This pen was once sold by Steadtler, but they discontinued it. We were finally able to acquire them from an overseas manufacturer.
We sent the new pen to an experienced calligrapher:
"The new Hot Foil Pen from CE is a notable improvement over the Staedtler one. This one makes a more consistent contact with the heating element because of the elongated coil and deeper threads on the screw post. That inconsistant contact was an ongoing nuisance I experienced with 2 two of the Staedtler brand hot foil pens. The pen heats up in five seconds, and works well on most surfaces. I tried it on 98# bond, Stonehenge, Somerset, Fabriano Roma, and glossy card stock. It was effective on all but Roma, probably because of its Roma’s relatively rough surface. The colors are vivid, and the quality of line will depend on the amount of pressure applied. Thin lines do not come out especially well, but a heavier contact will yield a solid line. The different colors worked about the same, and all looked great on glossy card particularly when applied with pressure.
But, don't expect to write letters with it, as the foil will "breathe" as the pen moves in different directions, causing broken foil lines. If you are doing monoline Romans you will probably have more success. But all in all this is a great little tool for adding decorative doodads, especially atop bold letters." - Barry Morentz.
Includes: Battery powered pen, 12 color foils (2 each color: gold, silver, red, green, blue, and multicolor), paper stencil with simple designs, 5 small sheets tracing paper, and an idea booklet.
**requires 2 AA batteries - not included

N148. Tim's Folded Pen
Tim's Folded Pen.
Each one of these pens is a versatile marking tool and a beautiful, handcrafted displayable object. Recycled metal cans are cut, hammered, and formed into the folded nib and combined with a turned hardwood handle and a bit of thin-walled brass pipe. These are truly instruments for expressive writing and drawing. The line width varies with the angle of the pen to the paper. Each one is also a lesson in sustainability. These were quick sellers at CNW, and purchasers included both students and instructors. Each pen is unique. Click here to see the pens.
$36.00 each
