Making Marks: Writing as Design and Personal Expression Books and other media No recommended books. Supplies Pens: Calligraphy pens, all kinds and sizes that you own; ones to experiment with; black and colored felt tip pens in varying thickness (what you have on hand); ballpoint pen – dark color or black. Tools: #2 Pencil, soft and hard ones you own; few colored pencils; any "mark making" tools, Ex. Sticks, toothbrushes, Q-tips, carpenter's pencil, etc. Ink/Paint: Black ink like Sumi; walnut ink if you have it; watercolor or gouache – few favorite colors. Brushes: Paint brushes in various sizes, Ex. "crummy" and good, pointed and flat, whatever you have. Paper: 2 –3 Sheets Arches text wove 25x40" – tear one into 12 each 8x10s; 1-2 sheets of cheap bond paper; 1 sheet watercolor paper, cold press, 140# Ex. Lanaquarelle; 1 sheet cover stock, Ex. Strathmore Artagain or Arches Cover, any color, at least 17x22 for portfolio cover. Misc..: Small pencil sharpener; eraser; ruler; scissors; X-acto knife; paper towels; 2 good sized water containers; apron or smock; masking tape; 9x12 piece of plexiglass or masonite to tape paper to; note taking book; few favorite quotes. Optional: Bone folder; pillow to sit on; one or two students to bring a hair dryer. Materials Fee: None
