Pens: Square edged dip-pens, preferably a Brause (N02) 4mm nib , automatic pen (N27) (half inch wide or larger); broad edge felt tip calligra¬phy markers (especially larger sizes); a range of other writing tools that you like to use (e.g. brushes, ruling pens (N22, N30), "cola" pens, droppers, etc).
Ink/Paint: Ink, gouache colors (WNGxxx).
Tools: 16" ruler (S271); pencils; palettes (S679, S723); mixing and loading brushes (BR37).
Paper: pad of practice paper (P20) 11"x 17" or larger; about 6 large sheets of better quality paper e.g. BFK Rives (PS91), Arches text wove (PS01), Sanders Waterford, colored Can¬son Mi-Tientes (PS61); or whatever you prefer; an 11"x17" pad of tracing paper (P43) for rough work plus 6 large sheets of heavier quality tracing vellum (P44) or preferably polyester film (PS100) with a frosted surface, (e.g., Duralar or frosted Mylar. This is like tracing vellum but is made of polyester and therefore is waterproof, commonly used for architectural drawings that need dimensional stability.
Misc: Finely powdered pumice (S319) and a cheap decorator's bristle paintbrush about ½" to apply pumice powder. Finely powdered gum sandarac (S123).

Students may purchase a CD or DVD (format TBD) with content relating specifically to this class including lectures, slide shows, and video of demonstrations of the instructor's polyrhythmic writing.

1oz.

Used on vellum and paper just before writing to achieve fine hairlines. Tie up in a small square of cotton cloth, and lightly pounce onto your paper to produce finer thins.Will help produce crisper letters. May stop bleeding, feathering.
