Odyssey Conference Class Listing
B16 COPPERPLATE I
C17 COPPERPLATE II
B145. The Zanerian Manual.
B152. Ornate Pictorial Calligraphy by E. A. Lupfer.
Oblique Penholder: An oblique penholder with an adjustable metal flange (if possible). Choices currently available from Paper & Ink Arts are the Century Oblique (H51, H52), the Zanerian Style (H59), and The Hourglass Adjustable Oblique Holder.
Nibs: The Leonardt Principal (N120) is the best currently available nib. Any of the vintage nibs such as the Gillott Principality, 604EF, or Zanerian Fine Writer, will also do.
Ink: McCaffery's Penman's Ink (I37) black, blue or red violet, Tom Norton's Walnut Draw¬ing Ink (I53). These inks work straight out of the bottle. Inks like Higgins Eternal (I70) can be used but do not produce as fine a hairline.
Paper: My personal recommendation for practice (P25) is Kodak's Ultimate 24 pound paper. I also use preprinted guidelines for practice, which may be downloaded and printed out from: http://www.zanerian.com/Vito-loGuidelines2009.pdf
Misc: A pencil, lint free tissue paper, newspaper for cushion sheets, a small sponge, water, inkwell or small glass jar, X-Acto blade (S621, S662) and a soft Revlon-style make up brush for remov¬ing the gold leaf flash from gilded letters. Additional resource: The Zanerian Manual.
Materials fee: $25 for Dr Vitolo's spiral bound 90 page instructional booklet Script in the Copperplate Style on his approach to teaching Copperplate script and his insights into letterform construction, including a CD rom of instructional videos on Copperplate script. An additional $10 to cover gilding materials used in Copperplate II.

N120. Leonardt Principal EF Nib
After a year in development, you can now purchase a modern nib that is equal to the best of the vintage nibs. Brian Walker, a respected pointed pen enthusiast, has
worked with a pen manufacturer to duplicate the quality and performance of the legendary Gillott No 1 Principality. The new nib has received rave reviews for both copperplate and Spencerian. It’s flexible and responsive, gives fine hairlines, but is smooth writing & catches the paper less.

I37. McCaffery's Penman's Ink
McCaffery’s Penman’s Ink
1 oz. jar.
This oak gall ink was developed with the help of leading penmen of today to provide an ink similar to that used during America’s golden age of Ornamental Penmanship in the 19th and 20th centuries. With a newly opened bottle, the ink writes brown but turns a dense black. Good for fine hairlines. See Colored Inks for colors and ivory McCaffery’s (colors and ivory are not oak gall inks).
Formulated for the pointed pen which is used for Spencerian, copperplate, etc, not for the broad-edged pen used for italic, blackletter (gothic), etc.
