(BR01) __ It wouldn't hurt to have your favorite pens and pointed brushes with you, as well. My favorite flat pens are ¼", 5/16" or ?" Horizon; Coit, Hiro or similar are okay; Automatic is too sharp for me, but will work with a light touch. __ Paper - Large paper (11" x 17" or larger) with a bit of tooth (I like STRATHMORE Charcoal Pads (P51) for pen, flat brush AND pointed brush, but NOT CANSON'S charcoal pads: pen work [only] will bleed, plus any fancier papers you might want to work on - Canson Ingres or Mi Tientes, Bugra, watercolor, etc. (PS05, PS61, PS21-WHT) __ Non-waterproof Ink – Higgins Eternal (I08)or Higgins Sepia (I97), or Walnut Ink (I53-2.5), etc. __ A tube or two of gouache (W/N Indigo and Prussian Blue has excellent texture and power. All colors are not created equal!) (WNG538, WNG332). For the cut paper part of the class you will need: __ Xacto knife and plenty of #11 blades (S417, S130) __ A self-healing cutting matt-the bigger the better, but a 9" x 12" really is just fine (S504-LG) __ Paper to cut: most cut paper art is traditionally done on black paper, so I'd load up on that if I were you, something in the Canson Mi-tientes neighborhood, but any color is going to work. As much as I would prefer to advise you to travel lightly, it will give you more options for creativity to have a nice selection of paper with you. Marbled and patterned papers could come into use as well (your cut-out letters will need something interesting to sit on top of -- see sample 'Calligraphy' with class description. Can also use photos or color copies of photos, too). The slide show on the first morning will give you more ideas of the options, and maybe you will be able to raid your store of paper or a store's store of paper for a project on the following day. There will be an optional special project, a cut-paper prismatic letter, that you may want to try. For this you will need 6 or 7 sheets of 8½" x 11" paper, that range in color from white or very bright to dark or black. If there is an art store or hobby store near you that stocks scrap book supplies they will usually have a large selection of colored papers in this size. Get the slightly heavier weight they might call card stock and pick out a nice range of value in colors that go together -- it can be monochromatic or not. See sample 'W' with class description.
