Cheerio is held in the northern mountains about two hours west of Greensboro, with an awesome view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is held at a YMCA camp with modern facilities. Single and double rooms are available and the food is resort quality. The Tetas provide a shuttle from Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO). If you rent a car, the Charlotte airport (CLT) is an option. The Raleigh, NC airport is farther, about 3.5 hours from Cheerio.

Through April 5, 2012. Exhibition: Alphabets from the Zaner-Bloser Collection. University of Scranton Weinberg Memorial Library's Heritage Room. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Zaner-Bloser was a l eader in penmanship and calligraphy instruction. The company produced manuals providing examples of elaborate Roman, Medieval, Decorative, and Shaded or Spencerian alphabets. The company also retained the original large format penwork for the manuals, and the exhibit will present approximately 70 examples of this original pen artwork. The exhibit will emphasize the work done by Charles Paxton Zaner (The Zanerian Manual of Alphabets) , Daniel Ames (Ames Compendium of Practical and Ornamental Penmanship), Henry Flickinger (Practical Alphabets), and S.C. The workshop runs from Friday afternoon to Tuesday morning. Chen Li teaches Roman letters written with a pointed brush on Fri-Sun, and Terhi teaches Bookbinding on Monday. On Tuesday is a general showing. Chen Li is a Chinese-Italian artist-calligrapher who works out of Torino, and Terhi Hursti is a Finninsh bookbinder-calligrapher. Cost of the four day course (from Friday afternoon to Tuesday morning) is 240 euro for first-timers (210 for returnees). Lodgings and meals are the responsibility of the student. There is no association to join. There is a show of the students' work in the Galleria Sotoportego.
