I08. Higgins Eternal Ink
I08. Higgins Eternal Ink.

A non-waterproof, carbon black ink for dip pens. Our most popular ink for classes. Recommended for copperplate (add a few drops of gum arabic). Perhaps the best ink for calligraphy for a beginner; it will cause the beginner the fewest problems. This ink will bleed more readily than other inks. If bleeding is a problem try Sumi Inks. 2.5 oz.

Quantity discounts start at 6 & 12.

"For broad-pen writing, I add gouache to Higgins Eternal. Gouache gives Eternal some needed body. It doesn't necessarily have to be black gouache. Indigo or a dark red add an interesting hue to the result. In a quarter ounce of Eternal, I add about a 3/8 inch bead of gouache from a tube. Eternal doesn't give me the hairlines I want in pointed pen work, so for that I much prefer iron gall or walnut ink". - Bob Hurford

I150. True Walnut Ink
I150. True Walnut Ink.

This rich, sepia-colored ink is made from the hulls of the Black Walnut tree (Juglans nigra), which is found throughout most of the eastern United States. A small amount of isopropyl alcohol is added to help prevent mold growth, but if mold forms, just scrape if off – the ink is still good. It is not suitable for use by children, but you can make your own without added alcohol (see I148. Dried Walnut Hulls or I149. Walnut Ink Kit). Wide-mouth, 1oz glass jar.

S853. Jumbo Dinky Dip
S853. Jumbo Dinky Dip.

Similar to our Screw-Top Small Dinky Dip (S934), but with larger screw-top jars (1/2 oz) and a larger unfinished wooden base..

Choose your base shape:
1-Square (1 jar) 2.75"x2.75"
4-Square (4 jars): 3.5"x3.5"
4-Rectangle (4 jars): 1.5"x6.5"

The bases are made so that the jars fit tightly in their holes, but also made so you can remove the jars. To remove a jar, you might need to wiggle the jar back and forth while pulling. It can take some effort. Of course, you will want to make sure the lid is screwed on well before starting to remove the jar. When replacing a jar -- if you want it to be removable again -- push it into the hole just enough for it to be secure, but not as deep as it will go.

Jar inside dimensions: approximately 28mm dia. x 25mm high

Refills: S844 or S856

S934. Small Screw-Top Dinky Dip
S934. Small Rectangle or Square Dinky Dip, with 4 screw-top vials.

These mini inkwells allow you to see your nib as you dip into the ink, allowing you to easily control the depth. They are especially well-suited for pointed pen. Each has four plastic vials, four screw-tops, and an unfinished wooden base. The screw-tops seal the vials tight for transporting or storage (you should keep the filled vials upright). Vial inside dimensions: approximately 14mm dia. x 20mm high. (These are larger than the vials for our regular small Dinky Dip, now called "Flip-Top Small Dinky Dip.")

Choose your base shape:
Rectangle 1" x 4"
Square 2.75" x 2.75"

See S935 for refills.

If you prefer a vial with a flip-top, please see our Flip Top Dinky Dip, item S852.

If you prefer larger vials, please see our Jumbo Dinky Dip, item S853.
