Highly recommended for pointed pen work. Non-bleeding, bright white, smooth satin finish, 80gsm (22lb), acid-free, pH neutral paper. Micro-perforated to provide a clean edge when you tear out the sheet. Very similar to the regular Rhodia Pads, but with gray lines/graph. Some say the paper is also smoother.

This vintage edition starts with instruction for basic flourishing using a series of exercises, leading to designs of simple banners. Next come quills, showing a wide variety of ways to render the barbs with some step-by step examples, and ways to add flourishes and banners. Birds follow with a showing of the strokes used in each part of the bird, a couple of simple bird step-by-step illustrations, followed by a gallery of of 150 flourished examples by masterful penmen, including F.O. This vintage edition includes two pages on Canan’s career; brief instruction; examples of business writing, card writing, off-hand flourishing, letter writing, quotations, and poetry; 11 Artistic (Ornamental) Spencerian script capital alphabets.

After the death of the famed A. D. Taylor in 1898, [Clinton C.] Canan was equaled by no living penman in delicate, accurate, free-hand ornamental penmanship. A Zanerian graduate, he taught penmanship at Cleary College in Michigan, the Cedar Rapids Business School in Iowa, and Shissler College in Pensylvania. Born in 1873, he died at 31 in 1904. Born in Cuba, Artigas emigrated to the USA in the 60's and worked for the Ames & Rollinson Studio in NYC for nearly a decade before moving to Miami and setting up her own studio. 40 color plates. At this price, it should be in every point pen scribe's library.
