Burnishers Leaf & Shell Gold Leaf, Imitation & Non-precious

S892. Instacoll Gold Size
S892. Instacoll (was item S479) Yellow color.

Available sizes:
1oz. or 3oz. wide-mouth jars
2oz. Nalgene dropper bottle
Bulk 1 liter bottle

Reggie Ezell, Harvest Crittenden, and Sheila Waters use this synthetic size for raised, mirror-finish gilding with gold leaf. They and many others have found it easier to use than traditional gesso made from slaked plaster. Yellow color allows you to see what you have applied.

Caution: Freezing adversely affects Instacoll. Those in the North or west of the Rockies should order during the warmer months.

S898. Jerry Tresser’s Liquid Gesso
S898. Jerry Tresser's Liquid Gesso. 8 grams.

Use this prepared gesso for manuscript illumination. His special slaked plaster recipe, based on Cennini's centuries-old formula and adjusted to work with Titanium Oxide, is now available in easy-to-use liquid form! (Jerry has used this gesso for his personal work for over 30 years.) It is tinted pink using gilder's bole, the traditional pigment. The gesso comes ready to use with brush or ruling pen. An easy adjustment is made for use with pointed or broad-edged pen or quill - directions are included (never dilute with water). Stir before using to remix the ingredients. It applies smoothly with no air bubbles or pinholes (never shake to remix!). Stored tightly sealed in its liquid form in your refrigerator; it will keep for years. Does not contain White Lead, but instead uses non-poisonous Titanium dioxide for the white pigment.

A traditional size for illumination. Made with natural gums. Paint over the area to be gilded with a brush. Allow to dry, which may take 10 to 20 minutes. While it is still tacky, apply the gold. If the gold size dries out too much, its stickiness can be reactivated by breathing directly over the applied size. Yellow color.
