P01-8. JNB Copperplate / Engrossers Pad 8.5X11in
P01-8. JNB Graph Pad with Slant Lines for Copperplate. 24lb bond.
8.5" x 11". Approx. 50 sheets.
Slant lines - 55-degree angle

Smooth paper for pointed pen. The paper takes the ink well and does not bleed or feather with most inks. (We tested with Higgins Eternal, Noodler's, McCaffery's, and Richtone Colors.) The smooth surface helps avoid pen catches on upstrokes.

Approx. 50 sheets with a blue grid and slanted lines for copperplate, 8 squares/inch. Grid may show up with some copiers. This pad takes the place of copperplate guidelines.

This paper is available in Blank Pads (see items P20 and P25).
For an 11"x17" Copperplate Graph Pad, use code P01-11
For a regular 11"x17" graph pad for broad-edged penwork, use code P72 (Gilbert Graph Pad)

I08. Higgins Eternal Ink
I08. Higgins Eternal Ink.

A non-waterproof, carbon black ink for dip pens. Our most popular ink for classes. Recommended for copperplate (add a few drops of gum arabic). Perhaps the best ink for calligraphy for a beginner; it will cause the beginner the fewest problems. This ink will bleed more readily than other inks. If bleeding is a problem, try Sumi Inks. 2.5 oz.

Quantity discounts start at 6 & 12.

"For broad-pen writing, I add gouache to Higgins Eternal. Gouache gives Eternal some needed body. It doesn't necessarily have to be black gouache. Indigo or a dark red add an interesting hue to the result. In a quarter ounce of Eternal, I add about a 3/8-inch bead of gouache from a tube. Eternal doesn't give me the hairlines I want in pointed pen work, so for that I much prefer iron gall or walnut ink". - Bob Hurford

I70. Moon Palace Sumi Ink
Moon Palace Sumi
The Ink is now in a bottle with a Gold Label

While the packaging is a bit different, this is the highly sought after and highly recommended Japanese Sumi Ink. For both broad edge and pointed pen work. Dries waterproof. A great calligraphy ink.

"I like Moon Palace better, but both Moon Palace and Best Bottle are beautiful inks. The Moon Palace has a slight sheen to it, which I like. Michael suggested this ink to me so please tell him I said, "thank you". I just finished a job of 200 invitations with Moon Palace and the ink is beautiful. I did not dilute the ink.
A client just brought me invitations (slick paper) to address. This bride knew going into this that I probably couldn't do pointed pen. However, for fun, I tried the Sumi inks and to my surprise they worked pretty darn good. I usually have to use a sharpie on slick envelopes, yikes!!!"

--Clair F., Jan 2011.

Four sizes available:

2.0 oz (widemouthed jar)
6.0 oz (180ml)

15 & 60 oz are temporarily unavailable: arriving Dec 2019

M82. Sakura Pigma Calligrapher
Sakura Pigma Calligrapher.

Pigmented, lightfast, Chisel Markers. For especially crisp letters, the sides of the tip are reinforced so the nib stays sharp for the life of the marker.

Pigma Calligrapher's special plastic nib performs similar to a metal dip pen. Get different effects by applying different degrees of pressure. Nib lasts longer than conventional fiber tip nibs on disposable calligraphy pens. Available in 3-point sizes (including the popular 1mm size) in 6 different colors.

Sizes: 1mm, 2mm, 3mm.

Colors: Black, Royal Blue, Red, Sepia, Purple, Hunter Green.

Sakura Pigma Calligrapher Markers are different from regular chisel edge markers. With Sakura Calligrapher Markers, the ink flows through two fairly stiff plastic plates to reach the paper. For this reason, it is important that you have the entire tip on the paper and apply more or less equal pressure across the entire width of the writing edge of the nib. (These stiff plastic plates are what keeps the tip crisp though the life of the marker.) With regular chisel markers, the ink will flow from any surface of the marker. With these Sakura chisel markers, you can't get sloppy with nib position to the paper or you will get a one-sided ragged stroke, or not a fully inked stroke. You may have to slow down, find the "sweet spot" and write more carefully.
