Basic Calligraphy Supply List plus:
All the mysterious stuff in your tool box Tape (S412). Right angle triangle (S613). Snap-off knife. 2 water jars (S784). 3 or more small mix brushes: pig bristle or synthetic (BR43) 2 – 3 tubes of gouache: Winsor & Newton, Linel, Turner or Schmincke (WNGHC1). Pen points: Speedball C0, C1, C2, B2, B3 (N09, N16). Your favorite pens for small writing: Mitchell Rexel, Tape, or Brause (N04, N01, N02) 3 copperplate points: Rexel is fine (N113). 7 or more Prismacolor pencils: white, dark, and bright colors (PL05). Your favorite paper and any paper you would like to try (PS01, PS84-HS) If you already have: music pen, ruling pens, wide or split pens, a spray mister. (N28, N22, N30, N27) Supply fee: $10 – 15 for gouache, watercolor, palette, ink, and papers supplied by me (I will supply most papers & paints)

S412. Drafting Tape
Drafting Tape
3/4: wide, 400" length

Drafting tape is a less sticky version of masking tape and is for temporary taping. Use it to attach your paper to your drawing board or table. With many papers it will peel off without damaging the paper. You should slowly and carefully peel of the tape. Also, leave the items taped only as long as necessary. These kinds of tapes can become permanently adhered to surfaces over time, especially with exposure to bright light.

N09. Speedball C Calligraphy Nibs
American calligraphy nibs for Italic, Blackletter (Gothic, Old English), Uncial, Half Uncial, Foundational and many other hands or alphabets. C-0, C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-5, C-6. C-0 is largest, C-6 is smallest. Best in larger sizes. C-2, C-3, & C-4 are popular for beginners' classes. They rust easily so let them dry thoroughly before storing them away. B Series is a round nib ideal for Gothic or outline letters. Also often used by illustrators for cartoons, uniform line drawings, borders, and display posters.

Mitchell Rexel Round Hand Nibs
Straight cut. Sizes 0(3.3mm), 1(3mm), 1-1/2(2.5mm),
2(2.3mm), 2-1/2(1.8mm), 3(1.4mm), 3-1/2(1mm),
4(0.9mm), 5(.75mm), 6(.6mm).

Flexible calligraphy nibs from England. Straight cut. Reservoirs are purchased separately. Though they are called Round Hand, these chisel edge nibs are good for many alphabets including Carolingian, Italic, Uncials, Gothic, Foundational Hand, and Roman Caps. These are more flexible than Brause nibs but stiffer than Mitchell and take to the ink better when new. Reservoir on top. Right Hand sizes only. Oblique cut. A good nib for classes and beginners.

These nibs from Japan are hand cut, extremely smooth, and long-lasting. They are chrome plated and have a medium flex. Great for Spencerian. Smooth writing with no burrs or scratchiness. Highly recommended by Michael Sull.
