Brush & Pen Dance Together

BRUSH & PEN DANCE TOGETHER – Linda Schneider

Learn new ideas combining the Brush Marker with the Pointed Pen to make beautiful formal script with colorful flourishes and designs. Also learn how to work on the “shady” side, which gives lettering and design more depth and pizzas. The key to creating beautiful calligraphy is practice, practice, practice; but the secret ingredient is having fun while you practice. The beauty of the brush is that you can carry the brush markers with you to practice on the go where you can write thank-you notes on location, and letter people’s names as immediate gifts and showing “random acts of kindness through calligraphy”. We will primarily focus on the brush markers, but we will also dance with the pointed pen showing endless possibilities when combined. Be prepared to have fun while working inside and outside the box!

H114. Turned Wood Oblique Holder
H114. Turned Wood Oblique Holder.

The Ornamental Wood Holder has intricate ornamental turnings inspired by those on the Century Penholders. Color of holder varies.
The Tapered Wood Holder has a finely tapered classic shape. All Tapered are the same dark brown/black color.
The Ebony Wood Holder has the same design as the Ornamental version but is made out of a very dark (almost black) African hardwood. This version is slightly heavier than the other versions.
The Zanerian Wood Holder is made using the same wood (and colors) as the Ornamental version. The Zanerian design is a very slim shaft with a small finial on the tip.

Each style has the standard brass flange (fitted for the Nikko G nib) and overall length of 6.5-6.75".

Quantity discount for 12 or more.

I08. Higgins Eternal Ink
I08. Higgins Eternal Ink.

A non-waterproof, carbon black ink for dip pens. Our most popular ink for classes. Recommended for copperplate (add a few drops of gum arabic). Perhaps the best ink for calligraphy for a beginner; it will cause the beginner the fewest problems. This ink will bleed more readily than other inks. If bleeding is a problem, try Sumi Inks. 2.5 oz.

Quantity discounts start at 6 & 12.

"For broad-pen writing, I add gouache to Higgins Eternal. Gouache gives Eternal some needed body. It doesn't necessarily have to be black gouache. Indigo or a dark red add an interesting hue to the result. In a quarter ounce of Eternal, I add about a 3/8-inch bead of gouache from a tube. Eternal doesn't give me the hairlines I want in pointed pen work, so for that I much prefer iron gall or walnut ink". - Bob Hurford
