John Decollibus

Master Penman John DeCollibus is presenting his first interactive online coarse entitled " Add A Dash of Madarasz to Your Script". John has taught this beautiful script for over 20 years with great success. Since he no longer travels outside of New England to teach, an online class seemed like the perfect solution to the many requests he receives.

Whole arm movement will be emphasized in executing the bold Madarasz capital letters. You may email your practice work each week which John will critique, offer suggestions and return to you. So whether you merely wish to add some 'Dash' to your present script or go full Madarasz, this 6 week coarse is for you!

Class begins October 17th. Class size is limited so sign up soon.

Experience with pointed pen script such as Copperplate is highly recommended.

SUPPLIES:

Pen points:
  • Leonardt Principal (N120)
  • Tachikawa G (N137)
  • Zebra G (N118)
  • Hunt 101 (N77)
(crow quills are not suitable for Madarasz Script)

Oblique penholders:
Right oblique holders are to be used by right and left handers.
What ever you use for copperplate should work for Madarasz Script as well.
Be sure that the flange is adjustable or is set at a slight upward cant.
(H130, H115)(Speedball plastic holders are not good for Madarasz Script)

Inks:
  • Preferred ink: McCafferey's Penman's Ink, preferably black for practice. (I37)
  • Also: Old World Ink and Iron Gall ink. (I116, I54)
  • Sumi and Ziller inks need water added for finer hair lines. (I70, I28)
Paper:
  • Clairefontaine and Rhodia are best but expensive for practice.(P36, P53)
Misc.:
  • Cushion: use about 6 pages of newspaper under your writing paper
  • Wet sponge
  • Loose leaf note book or other to hold your handouts

I28. Ziller Ink

"I LOVE the new Ziller inks, pink and grey. I am especially happy to have the grey ink as I am doing a lot in graphite now and needed a grey ink to "match" the artwork." --Bonnie Noehr

Pigmented, lightfast, waterproof (acrylic) for dip pens (pointed & broad edge) & brushes. Stir well before using. Dip nib or brush in ink, wipe off excess ink on jar edge or shake pen. Thin ink with distilled water. Intermixable to create other colors. Clean up pen with Ziller Pen Cleaner, which is specially formulated for pigmented, acrylic inks and has better success than other pen cleaners. New glass jars with metal lid.

Choose: Buffalo Brown, Cardinal Red, Charcoal, Cranberry, French Lavender, Glossy Black, Grass Green, Ivory, Midnight Blue, Mauve Mist, North Wind White, Peach Blush, Periwinkle Blue, Prairie Fire Orange, Soot Black, Spring Green, Sunflower Yellow, Tranquil Taupe, Wild Rose Pink, Wild Violet, Winter Gray, and Wisteria.
