Cloth and Paper Box Enclosures

Cloth and Paper Box Enclosures – 1MB1
Mare Blocker

Cloth and paper boxes are a quick-and-easy way to contain loose sheets of artwork or to protect artists' books. While they can be strictly protective and functional, they also create another layer of information. They add an element of unwrapping, which slows the viewer and creates an aura of preciousness or importance. Students learn how to laminate paper and cloth using Heat and Bond and an iron. This will be cut and folded into a small book box. Models of other simple box variations will be shown for inspiration. No binding experience needed.

Supplies:
  • X-acto knife (S417) (S130)
  • cutting board
  • needle (S213)
  • metal ruler (S270)
  • scissors (S835)
  • bone folder (S308)
  • an iron (if possible)
($7)
