S626. Yasutomo Niji Pearlescent Pan Set
Yasutomo Pearlescent Watercolor Paint Sets.

Hinged plastic case with a lid that can be used as a palette, but with 21 colors, you won’t need to do too much mixing! Carol Palleson tested this set and gave a thumbs-up for the combination of price and quality. Other sets - costing $20 for fewer colors - are more brightly pearlescent, but these are a bargain for adding fun touches to envelopes and cards. From China.

Instructions and examples of pictorial flourishes: quills, birds, swans, etc. Originally published under the title Fascinating Pen Flourishes. The first 21 pages by E.A. Lupfer provide some of the best Copperplate instruction available. He was a master of the hand. Other engrossing alphabets are shown, as well as many examples of engrossed pieces. Revised & reissued at intervals since it was first published as Zanerian Alphabets in 1895. This latest version is printed on glossy paper. The quality of some images is not as good as others.

B3064. Script Lettering For Artists / Thompson
B3064. Script Lettering for Artists by Tommy Thompson. 2012. 128pp. 6.14" x 9.21". Paper

The book gives the beginner a thorough, straightforward course of instruction, with advice on virtually every facet of the art of script lettering. In his clear and economical presentation, the author tells you how to hold the pen, how the letters should be slanted, how to "build" the letters out of a few primary strokes, the direction of the pen in inking, and every other step of the process. He also deals with the construction of numerals, the flourish and its basic elements, how to correct mistakes, commercial handwriting, etc. and gives a concise introduction to layout and package design. Throughout his account, Thompson stresses materials, tools, and equipment needed and provides exact specifications, brand names, penpoint types and sizes, and the like.
The history of lettering is also briefly sketched, and there are examples from early copybooks, including the work of some of the famous penmen and engravers of history: Bickham, Tompkins, Cocker, Barbedor, and others. In addition, the book offers dozens of illustrations of script work in present-day advertising and packaging, together with samples of various styles (round hand, bâtarde, coulée, free style, and more). All this illustrative material furnishes excellent models for study and practice.
