Yves Leterme

ABC 2010 Teacher List

Recommended for Both Classes B2830. Finding the Flow by Gina Jonas.

"Beautiful examples are found in a lot of books, but I would recommend the book of my teaching master Brody Neuenschwander: "doe dit tot mijn gedachtenis" (Jezuswoorden). I have also found the Scripsit (26.1) issue featuring the work of Julian Waters very instructive. And of course the little Character book by John Stevens. Finally, the black-and white issue of Letter Arts Review (LR19-2) from a couple of years ago."

The Scripsit 26.1 is sold out, but Scripsit 21.2 (B2881) is still available with lettering by Julian, John Stevens, Ward Dunham and Michael Clark. Pens & Protocol (B3016) has a section of Julian Waters' calligraphy.
The Character. John Steven is no longer available. John Steven's forthcoming book (B2982) can be reserved.
Jezuswoorden is not presently available in North America, but a book on the full range of Brody's work, Textasy (B2917) was recently published and limited number of copies will be available at Odyssey. You may pre-order a copy.

When Yves was at Cheerio, he mentioned the work of Elmo van Singerland, a Dutch lettering artist. Scripsit 19.2 (B2878) has four pages of his work, along with that of Hermann Kilian, Sherry Bringham, Jose Mendoza Y Almeida & Tony Forster. Scripsit 20.3 (B2880) is similar.

B2830. Finding the Flow/Jonas
Finding the Flow: A Calligraphic Journey by Gina Jonas. 2006. 85pp. 8.5" x 11". Spiral bound. Paper

A new approach to calligraphy for all levels, which acquaints the scribe with the essential but largely unexplored dynamics of stroke technique. Through stroke exercises with pencil and edged pen you explore vital movement and sensitive touch. You discover how shoulder, arm, fingers, and pen combine with alternating of pressure. The exercises lead to an intimate understanding of the edged pen: a foundation for formal alphabet study, creative alphabet design, and artistic self-expression! Begin
your calligraphy practice before starting formal alphabet study by warming up, sensitizing, and integrating mind and body. Full of illustrations and diagrams.

BR26. W&N Sceptre Gold 101 Brush
W&N Sceptre Gold 101 Brush, Round, Short Handle

For fine detail, lines & washes. A traditional and popular head shape for all-purpose watercolor work. Can be used for broad strokes yet it will also form a sharp point. They possess excellent color holding capacity, sensitivity, spring and durability. Recommended by Michael Sull.

High quality brushes made from a mix of sable and synthetic fibres. They are ideal for watercolor and suitable for use with acrylic. For watercolor media, while today's synthetic brushes perform excellently, pure sable still has the edge. With a blend you can get performance that is close to sable at a price that is close to synthetic. The blend of hair in Sceptre Gold II also gives you added benefits. Sable hair has excellent spring while the high-quality synthetic filaments ensure that the brushes are soft enough to work the color but also have a strong snap so they return back to their original shape with ease. The high proportion of sable in Sceptre Gold II gives the brushes considerably more ability to make larger washes in one stroke than normal synthetic brushes, and the hairs are tapered to a fine point, giving the brush control for detailed work.
