Learn the origins, foundations, and basics of Italic majuscules (capitals).

  • Pilot Parallel Pen, size 3.8 mm (FP67)
  • Ink of your choice (Pilot cartridges or Higgins Eternal are good) (FP69)(I08)
  • Paper of your choice - something that doesn't bleed with your ink choice (Rhodia is good; if you use graph paper please use 8 squares/inch grid) (P53) (P21)
  • Pencil - mechanical is fine or a drawing pencil in range 2H - 2B (PL38) (PL21)
  • Eraser (S86) (E13)
  • Ruler of your choice - I prefer clear grid ruler in 18" such as Wescott (S944) (S271)
  • Fine point markers such as Pigma Micron size 01 - one black one red (M17)(M21)
  • Circle template with 1" circle
  • Square template with 1" square


Optional supplies:
• 6" Goniometer (helpful for analyzing pen angles)

  • Speedball C-1 nib with pen holder (please only use a dip pen for this class if you are already at ease using one)
  • Decorative papers for making a small project (to be discussed in class)
