Copperplate Calligraphy

By Eleanor Winters

17 Jul 2021 - 21 Aug 2021

Total of 6 sessions on Sundays

For students who are unfamiliar with Copperplate as well as those looking for an intensive review, this class begins at the beginning, with an introduction to the flexible pointed pen. Using a step-by-step approach, we will learn the fundamentals of Copperplate -- the basic strokes, minuscules, capitals and numbers -- as well as devoting time to spacing and letter connections. Emphasis will be on mastery of the pen, working on consistency of pressure, as well as the shapes of the letters and relationships between them, to develop an in-depth understanding of this elegant and ever-popular script. The class will proceed slowly, giving beginners ample time to grasp the principles of Copperplate and practice the letterforms, as well as enabling more advanced students to improve their skills in order to write an elegant, graceful hand. * This workshop is open to all students and recording will be available after class for 30 days via Zoom *
