The Slip Knot Binding with Nan Robkin

Please add product LOJ2022 (below) to your cart for Letters of Joy supply orders.
You are encouraged to order early. Orders must be received by April 21, 2022 to be received in time for the event.

Supply List:

  • Sturdy paper, like cover or card stock (PS90), chip board, or recycled cardboard cut to size; a good size for 8-1/2 x 11 stack is 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches (paper cut in fourths). The sample is about 4 by 6 inches, made from the flaps from an Amazon box. You can use as many pages as you like, but we will be able to do six or seven in the time allotted for class. Note: The sample is in a landscape orientation, but you can make yours in portrait orientation if you prefer.
  • Heavy thread, like waxed linen or carpet and button thread. (S825) (S826) If not already waxed, it should be waxed for ease of use in the binding process. (S289) You will need three pieces of a little more than a yard each, to bind five or six pages. If you plan on more pages (to add after class), you will need longer threads.
  • Pencil (PL21) (PL38)
  • An awl or punch that makes holes big enough to pass your thread through doubled. (S255) (S347)
  • A magazine or other source of images to decorate your cover and pages. Note: You can start to decorate the cover and pages before class, leaving about 1/4 inch on one side for binding. Usually, this book is made from completed pages and cover, but because of the time limit, we will be binding the book before decorating it in class. Note: For the sample, Posca pens were used to decorate the cover; the inside is still blank.
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or preferred adhesive for adhering decoration (S391)
