Did you know that practicing writing is good for your brain? This six-week class will help you nurture your mind while learning an elegant pen and ink style you can use in everyday life! Italic calligraphy was developed during the Renaissance and revived by Lloyd Reynolds here in Portland. For use in schools, Inga Dubay and Barbara Getty developed an Italic handwriting style as well. In this class covering both styles, students will learn to write with edged pens and ink on paper. We'll cover proper positioning for good ink flow and minimum hand stress, practice achieving elegant and consistent lettering, and even how to cut a quill pen and write with iron gall ink the old-fashioned way.

Marilyn Zornado, Instructor, Calligrapher, Animator and Book Artist. Marilyn combines a love of beautiful lettering and quirky movement in her work. She has been doing calligraphy since she was 16 years old. Marilyn holds a BA in Graphic Design and MFA in Computer Animation.
