  • Favorite calligraphic tools (could include broad-edged and pointed nibs; ruling, parallel, and automatic pens; unusual tools) (N02, N04, N09, N113, N120, N93, N22, FP67,N27)
  • 1 Black Sharpie marker (fine point)
  • 2 fine point black markers like Pigma Microns in sizes 005 & 01 (M17)
  • Small bottle of black sumi ink (I70)
  • Small bottle of walnut ink (I150)
  • 30 ml jar of Dr. Martin's or Winsor & Newton Bleedproof White or a tube of white gouache (I38, WNG1)
  • A few tubes of your favorite watercolors (WNWC1)
  • One or two tubes of your favorite gouache (WNG1, WNG2)
  • A few inexpensive, watercolor brushes to apply color--one flat and one pointed (Simply Simmons is a good brand.) (BR60, BR67)
  • Favorite pointed brush (only if you like to do pointed brush writing) (BR38) OR an Aquash Waterbrush Pointed (medium 12mm tip) (FP93) OR a Pentel Color Brush in Black or another color (FP57)
  • Lots of practice paper (Sulphite drawing paper is good because it has some tooth to it. Don't bring really smooth paper.) (PA06, PS06)
  • Scissors (S835)
  • Pencil, sharpener and some erasers (kneaded and/or white, and a black if you're going to work on black paper) (PL38, PL13, E09, E13, E08)
  • Glue stick (S391)

  • X-acto knife with several #11 blades (S417, S130)

  • watercolor paper in 90 lb.or 140 lb. cold press (rough) (PS41, PS48)
  • marbled papers, colored papers, paste papers, etc.
If you want to use your own paper to cover the book boards, paper should be no heavier than 100 lb. text
or 80# cover weight as we will be doing an origami-type fold.
You will need five pieces of no smaller than 8.5 x 11 for one book. We will trim them in class.
