In this Scripture, also known as Song of Solomon, physical love is described with graphic frankness; the woman's voice speaks more often than the man's; and the name of God is not mentioned even once. There is no other book of the Bible like it. With these 44 colorful designs, Shepherd interprets selected verses of Song of Songs in a new way. Each facing page presents her process: she discusses the text and her response to it, her calligraphy, translation, and design choices. In the modern layouts, she uses the traditional alphabet forms she taught in her books, mostly Italic and Roman Bookhand, with some Blackletter, Uncial, and other hands.
