  A: The shell gold disk is appox 1/4 inch in diameter. Shell gold is not sold by weight. It is powdered gold combined with liquid gum Arabic, that is then allowed to dry. So the weight would include the gum Arabic and residual moisture in addition to the powdered gold.

  A: Shell gold is powdered gold with a gum Arabic binder. It is mixed with water, like you would with pan watercolor.
