Q: Is this ink as corrosive as Sumi inks tend to be? Can anything be added to aid in making lettering waterproof? And how does this ink handle in terms of bleeding?

A: Hello! The walnut crystals are purely pigment and don't contain harsh chemicals, they should not be as corrosive as some other inks. Regarding bleeding, this will depend on your paper. Cheaper papers tend to bleed more, it's suggested to do a test before working on a piece. You may be able to add a bit of gum sandarac to the paper, that may help with the bleeding. For waterproofing, you should invest in a quality spray. We carry the Spectrafix (S998) which is a non-aersol (contains art grade casein- a milk protein), spray it on the piece/envelope and let it completely dry. It will leave a thin film that allows it to repeal water.

A: Distilled water is preferred since it has no chemicals in it like tap water.
