Brause Nibs
Brause was founded in 1850 in Iserlohn, Germany, which has been a center for the manufacture of metalware since the Middle Ages. Brause became one of the leading pen nib companies in Germany and currently makes dip pen nibs for broad-pen calligraphy and lettering; pointed nibs for script (Copperplate, Spencerian, Modern Calligraphy), pen-and-ink drawing, and technical illustration; and a 5-line pen. Today, the company produces over 400 types of nibs as well as a wide range of calligraphy accessories. Brause calligraphy nibs are well known for their high quality and consistency; they are still manufactured in the small town of Iserlohn, from cold, rolled steel which is cut and pressed with custom machines and tools specific to each nib style and size.

Brauze (Bandzug) Nibs. Dip pen nibs for broad-edged calligraphy hands such as Italic, Foundational, Carolingian, Blackletter (Gothic, Old English) and the like. Chisel-edge, oblique cut (left-hand version has left-oblique cut). Stiff (not flexible) and sturdily made. Available in 9 widths, sized in millimeters: 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0. Comes with reservoir attached on the top (reservoir is removable). The .7mm nib is a unique size to Brause. This italic nib is good for invitations when the 1mm is too large. The 2mm is good for beginners and people with a heavy hand. |
| Brauze Ornament Nib. Dip pen nibs for monoline and bent-nib lettering styles. Has a round writing tip. Available in 9 sizes (millimeters): .5, .75, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5. Similar to the Speedball B-Series nibs. |

| Brause Rose Nib. Sturdy, yet has a very flexible fine point. The Brause Rose nib needs a very light touch as it responds effortlessly to pressure, for dramatic, swelled strokes. Has embossed rose design. |
| Brause 66EF Nib. Very flexible, with a smooth elasticity, and can produce great contrast between hairlines and swells (thick strokes). It has a high ink capacity for its size. A favorite for pointed pen work, especially Copperplate. EF stands for Extra Fine. Because of its shape, it is has been referred to as an Arrow nib. (The Hink & Wells 2067EF is a larger nib of the same Arrow shape.) |
| Brause Steno Nib 361. Also called “Blue Pumpkin” because of its blue color and shape. Short hand nib, very fine point, highly elastic, high ink capacity. Thin line with perfect ink flow. |
| Brause also makes several dip pens which are suitable for drawing and smaller writing. They are too small to fit in standard penholders. Brause 515 requires a specialized holder for tubular-base nibs. |
