N93. Hunt 22 Nib (22B)
Hunt 22 Extra Fine

A very popular and dependable bronze-finish nib that is great for Copperplate, Spencerian, and other pointed-pen scripts. The Hunt 22 has good flexibility -- not too flexible, not too stiff and can produce very thin hairlines and good swells. The nib works for x-heights of 3/16"-1/16". It has a sharp point but will work on slightly textured surfaces, though it will have a tendency to catch on upstrokes on those papers. Compared to the Gillott 303, the Hunt 22 point is less sharp, and it has more stiffness, so more pressure will be required to create thick shades (swells).

Hunt 22 is used by both beginners and professional scribes. HUNT EXTRA FINE 22 is stamped on the nib. The nib is sometimes called Hunt 22B. This nib is part of the JNB Pointed Nib Samplers (N154 and N117-1).

For more information about Hunt pointed nibs, click here.

Vintage Hunt 22 nibs (N93-V) are also available. When they were made, many decades ago, a higher quality of steel and craftmanship was employed in nib manufacture. They have similar characteristics, but are of a better quality.

I54. Blots Iron Gall Ink
This hard to find Iron Gall ink is available again.
1oz Glass Jar.

In the medieval recipes there are only two methods of preparing ink; mixing gum with carbon or treating salts of iron with tannic acid. Iron Gall Ink was probably invented in the first centuries of our era. However, the earliest existing document written with iron ink is an Egyptian parchment of the seventh century. From then the use of iron inks spread to Europe. Iron Gall Ink is quite thin, slightly gritty but flows well and produces exquisitely fine hairlines It appears grey at first but darkens to a velvety blue black on exposure to light and air. Blot's Iron Gall Ink is carefully prepared with reference to Palatino's recipe of AD1540 and is a rare opportunity to experience this medieval ink.

"Blots is the most traditional and oldest formula for Iron Gall ink still being made commercially, albeit the most acidic. It's derived from the medieval Palatino formula of 1540. The viscosity is perfect. If you want to pull the hairlines and shades of the Old-Timers, Blots is the way to go, in my experience." - Nick D'Aquanno

S1026. Kuretake Gold Mica Paste
S1026. Kuretake Gold Mica Paste. 1oz plastic bottle.

This shimmering golden paste has the same mica base as the Kuretake Gold Mica ink (I140). The paste is water-resistant when dry and can be applied pure or diluted with water. It's also ideal for mixing with other watercolor paints, like the Gansai Tambi by Kuretake.

A favorite of Paul Antonio: Flows ever so smoothly in a pointed pen, and it shines even brighter as it dries. I think it is the densest mica gold on the market, and it has the smallest particle size. The fineness of the line you can get without skipping is truly astonishing. You have to get a bottle of this.

Diane Von Arx uses a similar product, Pro-white (I62).
