If you've ever admired beautifully flourished calligraphy and wondered how artists make it look so effortless, you're not alone. Flourishing is one of the most sought-after skills in calligraphy, but it doesn't have to feel intimidating. In this workshop, Cheryl Tefft will guide you through the principles of broad-edge flourishing using Italic calligraphy as the foundation. You'll learn how flourishes grow naturally from your letterforms, when to use them, and how to create graceful compositions that enhance your lettering rather than overwhelm it.

** Writing/drawing/embossing/mark-making tools **
- Pencil —fine-point mechanical pencil recommended. I love the GraphGear 500 with 0.5 mm lead (Both: PL21).
- Parallel Pen in 3.8 mm (PARA38//FP67) size, or similar . NOTE : If you are left- handed , you may want to get a left-handed pen instead (Both: FP133).
** Inks/paints **
- Ink cartridges for Parallel Pen (at least 2 cartridges; color(s) of your choice), or other suitable ink (12CART or PIPAPENCA// FP69 or FP70 )
** Papers **
- Favorite non-bleeding practice paper . Letter-size or larger; a few sheets. Suggested options:
- Grid paper (if you plan to draw your guidelines by hand) ; Rhodia is by far my favorite. (P&I: SMGRID, RH1820, P21//JNB: P22, P56 or P55//Both: P38, or P80) .
- Blank Rhodia paper (for printing guidelines) , or similar . (RH1800//P214 ) .
- A few large sheets (or a roll) of inexpensive blank (unlined) paper —butcher paper, for example, and/or large sheets of plain copier paper or layout bond (11 x 14” or larger)—mostly we will use pencil or monoline pen with this, so it isn’t absolutely necessary for it to be good with calligraphy ink, but that would be a bonus
- Layout bond paper or layout marker paper , letter-size (A4 size) or larger, a few sheets (P2044 or P2041//P09-50 or P32//B
