Foundations of Calligraphy by S Waters
So wish I had known about this fabulous book years ago. It has clear explanations, on-point historical background with examples (and step by step methods of analysis for any scripts), lavish illustrations with Ms Waters’ generous explanations of how her effects were achieved and the media used; the detailed examples of what makes for a good or bad letter from, design layout or script choice are particularly helpful. Cannot recommend this book highly enough for both experienced or beginner calligraphers.

Excellent book. As a beginning calligrapher I appreciate the variety of subjects it covers. The binding also makes it easy to keep open to the page as you’re working with it. I’d highly recommend it.
