N120. Leonardt Principal EF Nib.
You can now purchase a modern nib that is equal to the best of the vintage nibs. Brian Walker, a respected pointed pen enthusiast, has worked with a pen manufacturer to duplicate the quality and performance of the legendary Gillott No 1 Principality. The new nib has received rave reviews for both Copperplate and Spencerian. It's flexible and responsive and gives fine hairlines, but is smooth-writing and catches the paper less.
- Very flexible
- Excellent nib for pointed pen scripts
- Sharp point, but still smooth writing
- Thich/thin contrast is very good
- Recommended by Michael Sull for heavily-shanded Spencerian and for very delicate work (for intermediate and advanced scribes)
- In JNB Pointed Nib Sampler (N154)
- Made in England
- Bronze-finish steel
- Stamped on nib: D. Leonardt & Co. / EF / Principal / England

Great Nib !
First time with Leonardt EF Principal. And a great time. Both hairlines and downstrokes performed easily. Maybe better with Sumi Ink than with fountain pen ink (Lamy). Happy with it.

The Store I trust.
When I need the best nibs, I order from John Neal Books. They are awesome.

Excellent!
I am really liking the Leonardt Principal EF Nibs. They require a delicate touch, and a lower angle on the upstrokes or they catch, but the line size variance is really excellent!

Wow!! Yeah!!
I never used anything but Nikko G's, and every time I'd write, my hairlines were way to big. I love the very fine dainty lines, and small writing, and these nibs are awesome!! I'm using them with the Blackwell holder, McCaffery's gloss black, and Rhodia paper. It has been a huge step up to what I've been after for years. What percentage is the nib? I don't know but this set up is awesome. I can't wait to sit down and enjoy it, that's for sure! I'm really enjoying them!

Great nib
I'm a newbie with calligraphy nibs, but this one created a nice line. I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Leonardt Principal EF
This is my favorite nib.

Leonardt Principal EF
This is my nib for spencerian script. I rarely use anything else these days.

Superb!
I love the sharpness of the tip, it creates the most beautiful hairlines.

Very Serviceable
Joe Vitolo in his book Learn to Write Script in the Copperplate Style recommends this nib as very serviceable for Copperplate Script. He writes: The nib must have a sufficiently flexible point to allow for the formation of shaded down strokes by applying downward pressure to the pen. It should also be sharp enough to allow for fine hairlines to contrast the shades. An example of such a nib is the Leonardt Principal. Other modern nibs he recommends for Copperplate-style scripts are the Gillott 303, Gillott 1068A, Hunt 22b, and Hunt 56.

EF Principal Nib
This is a super flexible nib that produces perfectly fine hairlines. I highly recommend the EF Principal nib for intermediate to advanced level pointed pen calligraphers. Beginners should choose a less flexible and less sharp nib.
