Tree-dwelling lichens can be tricky to capture. Discover the wonders of crustose and foliose lichens on the Arb’s oak trunks and branches. Back in the classroom, we’ll depict fragments of lichens on bark or twigs, employing rules of composition and value in colored pencil.

Supplies:

You may bring specimens. Some will be provided.
3 sheets of white Bristol or hotpress Watercolor paper. I recommend Legion Stonehenge and Arches hotpress
HB graphite pencil
Erasers: Tombow Mono Zero and a kneaded eraser
Pencil sharpener: helical crank sharpeners are great for colored pencils, particularly Muji, Carl Angel 5, and Rapesco 64; or a mini battery-powered electric; or a handheld KUM
Artists tape
Useful but not necessary: a stump and a colorless blender pencil or colorless blender marker
Colored Pencils: These Prismacolor Premiers and equivalent Faber Castell Polychromos are suggestions. You need only one brand. Graphite can be used instead of Cool/Cold Grey pencils.
