Classical Drawing Techniques in Botanical Art with Claudia Campazzo

Saturday, October 18, 2025
8am – 4pm

Masking can be an effective tool for building layers of texture for certain subjects, such as bark, ground litter and rocks! This hands-on workshop introduces classical drawing techniques rooted in the atelier tradition, with a focus on botanical art. The atelier tradition is a centuries-old method of artistic training where students learn through direct observation and practice under the guidance of master artists to achieve technical mastery and create lifelike art. In this environment, skills such as precision, technique, and careful study of the natural world are emphasized. In the morning, using graphite pencils, we’ll explore methods like blocking-in, shading, and working with values. In the afternoon, we’ll apply these techniques to draw a rose from a printed reference, refining your skills for lifelike results. Get ready to slow down!
