Description

Oh, the allure of an ancient Medieval manuscript! The beauty of those exotic, colorful Versal letters! In this workshop, Brian will demonstrates different techniques in creating attractive medieval-style versal letters. He will also show you various ways to decorate and embellish your Versals, and will give many "tips and tricks" that will simplify the process for you. You will amaze yourself that you too can create beautiful, timeless Versal letters, as we unlock the secrets of this "lost art". This workshop is open to all skill levels, everyone is welcome!

• Plastic “see-thru” Ruler (S871, S798)

• Black Ink of your choice (Brian uses Pelican 4001 Brilliant Black) (I04, I37, I126)

• Red Ink of your choice (Brian uses Monteverde Ruby) (I37, I59, I04)

• Blue Ink of your choice (Brian uses Monteverde Caribbean Blue) (I37, I59, I04)

• Metallic Gold watercolor (Coliro/Fintec type) (Brian uses Coliro Arabic Gold) (S1000)

• Gouache or Watercolor (Blue, Red, Green, Titanium White) (HG749, WNG1, WNWC1)

• Good quality paper with no lines (Rhodia or Clairefontaine) even better is 67 lb cardstock (P53, P104, P36)

• Regular printer paper to print handouts and take notes

• Straight pen holder with fine, pointed nib (stiff nib, not flexible) Brian uses Atome 1423 or Atome 423 nibs (H113, H152, N161, N97)

• Good sharp pencil for sketching the designs (PL21, PL38)

• Black Micron Pen size 01 (M17)

• Good eraser (E13, E09)

• Artist paintbrush (round, size 0) Brian uses Princeton or Windsor & Newton Cottman (BR30, BR101)

• Small container to hold water to wash out your brush (S1005)

Optional :

• XF (extra fine) fountain pen loaded with red ink (Brian uses Lamy AI-Star with XF nib) (FP2110)

• XF (extra fine) fountain pen loaded with blue ink (same type pen as above) (FP2110)

• 12/0 pointed round brush (Brian uses “Silver” brand) 

• Small plastic 12” T-Square (S753)

• Clipboard (to use with the T-Square)

• Patent Gold Leaf and Miniatum ink (make sure it is minimum ink, not regular minimum) (S189-5, S983)

• Watercolor pencils in blue, red , green (PL58)
