Elinor Aishah Holland - Introduction to Arabic Rika Script Calligraphy - Aug 10 - Sept 14, 2025

In this 5-week online introductory class, we will examine samples of Rika (Arabic Ruq’a) and learn how to use the pen. We will learn the independent letters, then the letter connections, and in the final session, learn to write a sentence in the Rik’a script. Developed during the Ottoman era for scribes for use in official documents and fast note taking, Rik’a script has an ease and charm all its own. Rik’a is a good beginning script for students to attune themselves to the use of pen and ink on paper before moving onto more artistic styles. Classes will be on Aug 10, 17, 24, and Sept 7 and 14. Open to all levels, ages 13 and up.
