Stone Letter Carving 200 by Paul Herrera – Level: (I) Intermediate

The student for this course will have taken “Stone Letter Cutting 101” or have had previous letter cutting experience. Instruction will guide the participant from a painted design on a properly prepared stone surface to a finished, colorized work of art in the Father Catich tradition of inscription cutting. Each participant will:
• Begin with a transferred image on a prepared stone
• Understand Rough cut vs. Finished cut
• Make a proper rubbing for quality check
• Paint or gild the finished cut
• Final finish all four edges of the stone
• Chamfer the top edges of the stone
• Final polish and apply a protective seal to the stone

Class Supplies

• A design of no more than 4 letters or 5 numerals (i.e. House address)
• (PL38) #2 lead pencil
• Apron
• Small dust brush
• (S189-5) Gold leaf (optional). We will not have gold leaf for sale.

The following supplies will be PROVIDED:

• One piece of slate
• Mallet and Chisel
• Lettering brushes
• Layout paint
• Gold size
• Miscellaneous tools
• Additional stones are available for an added charge.
