Rosalee Anderson - Initial Impression - May 2 & 9, 2026

The scrolling acanthus technique will be the focus of this class; you will master the basic strokes and combine them to create your own beautifully adorned Roman-type initial.  This motif is very versatile, being appropriate for gifts, commissions, note cards; and can be expanded for use in larger calligraphic pieces as a decorated letter.  We will be using colored pencils for this class, but paint and gold leaf are definite alternatives. You will also add touches to the finished piece making an impressive presentation.

Lesson 1

Learn the strokes of the scrolling leaves, which are essential to this class, and begin an initial letter using the scrolling technique in a gray tone, adding color to the letter, and finishing touches.

Lesson 2

Begin a second letter using the scrolling technique with variations in adding color to the leaf motif.  We will also color the initial letter differently and add an alternate background, experiencing the scrolling acanthus’ versatility.
