Stoneground Paint Co. creates watercolors with finely ground pigments and a natural binder made from gum arabic, water, and prairie-sourced wildflower honey. This traditional approach, free from fillers and preservatives, results in vibrant, transparent colors that offer a beautiful luminosity and depth. By crafting paints with single pigments, Stoneground empowers artists to fully control color mixing and prevent muddiness in their work, allowing for clear, expressive results across a wide spectrum of effects.
Stoneground’s paint-making process reconnects artists with a centuries-old approach to materials. Each pan of paint is meticulously prepared by hand, with pigment and binder blended using a glass muller on a stone slab over several weeks to ensure rich, even color. The addition of honey enhances both the preservation and smooth application of the paint, delivering a high-quality, versatile watercolor that inspires artists to explore the unique properties of every pigment.
