Description

Textura & Variations The Gothic textura is an excellent starting point from which to create variations in density, weight and degree of formality. It was the letterform that Gutenberg/Schoeffer took as a model for the first letterpress printed book in Europe and it’s a central part of the calligrapher’s palette. It is rich in texture (hence the name, the word text comes from the latin textus, to weave). We will be discussing pen angle, spacing, consistency of form and variations on the basic shapes. I will be demonstrating the use of colour and large scale letters with an automatic pen as well as doing a quick drawing demo in the type design program Glyphs. All levels are welcome!
