    Hunt 56 Nib

Posted by Hunt 56 Nib is just what I need for everyday practice on Apr 30th 2025

I was gifted a retired calligraphers supplies and among the interesting nibs she had I found several Hunt 56 nibs. I tried them & was hooked. I like the Hunt 56 nib because it has a stiffer nib and does not seem to catch on upstrokes like all my other nibs. As a matter of fact, I rarely have to stop and remove paper from them tip of my nib after downstrokes & love the way it glides over the page! Thanks John Neal Bookseller for your superb work stocking & shipping calligraphy supplies!

Joe Vitolo in his book Learn to Write Script in the Copperplate Style recommends this nib as very serviceable for Copperplate Script. For this script he writes: The nib must have a sufficiently flexible point to allow for the formation of shaded down strokes by applying downward pressure to the pen. It should also be sharp enough to allow for fine hairlines to contrast the shades. Other modern nibs he recommends for Copperplate-style scripts are the Leonardt Principal, Gillott 303, Gillott 1068A, Hunt 22b.
