Description

Basic Copperplate - All Levels

The goal of this class is to introduce basic forms of Copperplate lettering to new or beginning lettering students.
Copperplate is written with a pointed pen nib and often an oblique pen holder. This class may also be of interest
to students who wish to improve or fine tune their copperplate lettering skills. A short description of basic tools
will be discussed. Copperplate warm-ups will be demonstrated. Basic pen strokes and shapes (forms) will be
taught. These strokes and shapes will be joined together to create letterforms. Letter shading and slant will also be
taught. Lowercase letterforms (minuscules) and basic capitals (majuscules) will be demonstrated. Letter spacing
inside words, between words, and between lines of lettering will also be discussed. If time allows, numerals will
be demonstrated.
