Description

The brush is a great tool to explore both traditional and non-traditional lettering and has applications for both commercial and fine art. We will explore both synthetic and natural hair brushes, with exercises that demonstrate the many possibilities for brush lettering and fine art possibilities. Recommended for those with some lettering experience and basic understanding of fundamentals.

Supply List:
*Note: Don’t worry if you don’t have everything. You will be fine with whatever you have.
11x14” Strathmore Mixed Media pad (P101)
11x14” Fabriano Water Color pad (140#) (P134)
11x14 Tracing Paper Pad (P43)
Waterproof black calligraphy ink - I like India ink because it has a matte finish; sumi ink has a shinier finish and is harder on brushes (I159)
White calligraphy ink (I like a mix of Dr. Martin’s Bleedproof White or Pro White and Permanent White gouache) (I38, I62)
Some favorite gouaches (HG749, WNG1)
Watercolor set (S609)
White acrylic and a couple colors (HB30)
Water brush (I like Pentel Aquash Water Brush) (FP93)
Cheap house painting brush, 2” wide (and others if you have them)
Cheap Chinese pointed brushes or whatever you have (big and small) (BR104)
Pentel Color Brush (FP57)
Any pointed brushes you have (Recommended, but optional)
1” flat brush (BR01)
Assortment of your favorite broad edge, pointed and miscellaneous calligraphy pens

Couple sheets of 11x14” Arches Text Wove or comparable
