The Calligraphers’ Guild of Manitoba is launching off the year with an incredible learning opportunity for its members and anyone interested in perfecting their calligraphy skills. We are happy to announce that internationally renowned artist Kalo Chu will be teaching Spencerian Script Adventure for the guild this February. This workshop is an introductory class in Spencerian Script. It is appropriate for complete beginners or calligraphers of any level who wish to master and refine their technique. Kalo is an incredible teacher with a very clear teaching style who manages to simplify this calligraphic hand so that anyone can grasp its fundamentals, and develop the skills required to produce its graceful forms. This quote taken from an article in the Home Journal on Kalo, captures the essence of what she shares with her students in every class she teaches: “Learning calligraphy not only enables us to rediscover the feeling of writing, but also the importance of writing every stroke with focus and heart.” This class will cover the history of Spencerian Script, and explore the lowercase and uppercase letter forms in detail, as well as letter connections and variations. Spencerian is an elegant, historical writing style that was developed in America in the 1840’s by Platt Roger Spencer. Learning Spencerian helps to improve your overall handwriting. It is a versatile script that can be used for daily correspondence, handwritten letters, stationery designs, wedding invitations, and more. The class will be conducted on Zoom on Mondays and Thursdays, from February 23, 2026, to March 5, 2026.
