A light touch and lacy flourishes can elevate the basic italic form to one of grace and beauty. The italic hand was developed during the Italian Renaissance, its beauty lies in the pleasing contrast between thin and thick strokes, the gentle slant and oval based letters. It is an excellent choice for those who seek artistry and legibility in their work. We will review the basic strokes and then move on to adding some wonderful light flourishes to the lower case letters. Variations of capitals will be next, and an exploration of the potential of simple pen manipulations to add some variety.
