Small, delicate nib for very small script (x-heights under 1/16"). Requires very light touch to keep it from catching on the upstroke. Useful for retouching letters made with larger pens. The Gillott 291 is stronger than the Gillott 290 and is probably more useful for script.

    I love this nib, very fine lines for drawing. I'd say 1 out of every 5 nibs is bad. A perfect one with the finest of precision is about the same, 1 in 5. I wish Gillott could make the 291 with more consistency. You might have trouble getting the nib to start if the ink is too thick like shellac india inks. I've had no problems with dye or pigment inks like Pelikan 4001 and Platinum Carbon.
