Description

In calligraphy and typography, it is often said that letters take shape in black AND white, not black ON white: indeed, conceiving harmony through the spaces by observing the voids between forms is often the true key to achieving good results in calligraphic work; thus, white space can be even more important than the forms that inhabit it. In this three-session workshop, we will explore three main styles (Gothic Textura, Italic, and Humanistic), while also reviewing the basic forms, in order to handle weights ranging from the finest to the boldest, using this knowledge to create a final piece rich in contrast and dynamism. Intermediate-level workshop, particularly suitable for those who know at least the basics of one of the styles mentioned.
