​We will begin with the roots of Chancery Script, exploring this style popular during the Italian Renaissance, develop our skills in creating the distinct letterforms of Chancery Script, we’ll cover key elements like letter slant, spacing, and the basics of flourishing applied to majuscule letters, all while emphasizing the balance between formality and fluidity that defines this script.

​We’ll then see how Chancery Script can be brought into contemporary styles, learn how to adapt traditional techniques for modern tools (metal nibs).

​This workshop is ideal for beginners looking to learn the basics of Chancery Script as well as intermediate calligraphers who want to refine their technique or explore a new script and its contemporary possibilities.

• Tools & materials (nibs, inks and paper - preparing and maintaining tools for optimal performance)
• Overview of Cresci's work
• Anatomy of minuscule letters in both historical and contemporary style, part 1
• Exercises to develop the correct space consistency and accuracy of strokes

• Anatomy of minuscule letters in both historical and contemporary style, part 2
• Exercises to develop the correct space consistency and accuracy of strokes, exercises to practice the full alphabet

Lesson 3

• Anatomy of majuscules letters in both historical and contemporary style, part 1
• The basics of Chancery flourishing applied to majuscules, part 1

• Anatomy of majuscules letters in both historical and contemporary style, part 2
• The basics of Chancery flourishing applied to majuscules, part 2
• Wrap up and exercises for developing your own style
